Here are some scams to watch out for:
NZPost Delivery Issue Scam
Commission-Based Scams
Facebook Competition Scams
NZPost Delivery Issue Scam - Ongoing
We are aware of a scam text being sent to NZ numbers posing as NZPost. The texts are sent at random and do not relate to a specific package. The text advises that there has been a delivery issue and asks you to click a link to update your details. The link will direct you to a third-party site to gain personal information or financial information to exploit these details.
What to do if you receive this text:
-Do not click this link or submit the form on this link.
-Report the message to the Department of Internal Affairs (DIA) by forwarding the message to 7726 who can investigate further.
-Block the text and mark it as spam.
Commission-Based Scams -2024
We are aware of a scam that targets people with promises of easy money but only leads to financial loss and identity theft.
With this scam, you may receive a WhatsApp message, text, or email from someone claiming to represent Mighty Ape, and offers commissions for referrals or sales. The message may look legitimate and even use logos or websites that resemble real ones.
The message will ask you to sign up and join the program to begin earning rewards. However, these rewards cannot be withdrawn without sending money or making a deposit to a specific bank account. The scammer may promise to return your investment or pay you a higher amount in return, but in reality, they have no intention or ability to honor their word. Once you send the money, you lose it, and you may also expose your personal and financial information to the scammer, who can use it for further fraud or identity theft.
Below is an example of one of these fraudulent sites:
Mighty Ape will never:
-Recruit via What's App. All jobs we currently have available can be found here: https://www.seek.co.nz/Mighty-Ape-jobs.
-Direct you to other Mighty Ape-branded sites. Mighty Ape's only Mighty Ape-branded websites are www.mightyape.co.nz and www.mightyape.com.au. Other sites with "Mighty Ape" in the URL are not associated with us and we would strongly discourage you from clicking on these. You can find a full list of the websites Mighty Ape sells through here.

Facebook Competition Scams -Ongoing
We are aware of fake Facebook pages targeting customers on our legitimate Competition Posts. If you have won one of our legitimate Facebook or other social media competitions, we will contact you via the social media platform and we will only ever ask you for your delivery address and contact phone number so that we can get your prize to you ASAP!
Mighty Ape will NEVER:
Ask you for your password or credit card details
Request you click on any links in order to claim your prize
"Add you as a friend" on Facebook, as we only operate Facebook pages
To identify legitimate Mighty Ape Facebook pages look for the blue verification badge next to the page's name. Please treat pages without blue verification badges that request personal information with caution.
Please report any fraudulent pages without the blue verification badges that you notice as this is the best way to pass these along to Facebook and our team.
If you have provided bank account or credit card details please contact your bank immediately.
